Special Character
Wellington College is one of New Zealand's most prestigious State Secondary School for boys, aged 13 to 18 years. The College was established in 1867 to provide a complete education from Year 9 to Year 13 with an emphasis on preparation for a tertiary (University) education. Recognition of student effort and celebration of achievement in all spheres of College life are features. School uniform is compulsory for all students and an emphasis is placed on pride in personal presentation. The present roll of 1600 students comes from a traditional geographic, multi-ethnic, though predominantly European community. This year, there are 65 international students mainly from China, India, Thailand, Viet Nam, Korea, Hong Kong, Japan and Germany.

Location and Facilities
Set in well landscaped grounds, Wellington College projects an image of history, imposing facilities and an environment of orderliness. The School is sited on 12 hectares of land between Wellington's green belt and the City and is close to Government, Business, Sporting, Tourist and Cultural facilities.

In addition to over 60 classrooms, laboratory, technological and art facilities, extensive fundraising has resulted in the building of state of the art Sports, Art and Computer Centres, Science Block, International Students' Centre, Library and Languages Centre.
